Visitors to the Machakos ASK Show 2026 gained valuable insights into modern honey harvesting techniques when Sanchez Beekeepers showcased a Honey Centrifuge Machine, commonly known as a honey extractor. The machine was presented as one of the most important innovations helping beekeepers harvest honey efficiently while preserving honeycombs for future use.
According to Sanchez Beekeepers, a honey extractor is a food-grade drum designed to use centrifugal force to remove honey from uncapped honeycomb frames without damaging the comb structure. The presenters explained that after honey-filled frames are removed from a beehive, the wax caps covering the honey cells are carefully removed. The frames are then placed inside the extractor and spun at high speed.
As the machine rotates, centrifugal force pushes the honey out of the comb cells and onto the inner walls of the drum. The honey then flows down to the bottom of the extractor, where it is collected through a valve into clean containers ready for processing and packaging.
Sanchez Beekeepers noted that one of the greatest advantages of the honey centrifuge machine is that it preserves the honeycomb. Since the comb remains intact, bees can reuse it, saving them energy and allowing them to produce honey more quickly in subsequent seasons.
The presenters further explained that the machine improves hygiene, reduces honey wastage, and increases productivity, especially for commercial beekeepers. It also shortens the harvesting process compared to traditional extraction methods. The demonstration highlighted how modern equipment such as the honey extractor is transforming beekeeping into a more profitable and sustainable agricultural enterprise for farmers across Kenya.
