More than 100 mango farmers from Mbooni Subcounty have received a major boost following a sensitization forum organized by the Department of Agriculture in partnership with Ahadi Achievers Empowerment – CBO. The event focused on strengthening collaboration in mango farming, improving marketing strategies, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices among local farmers.
The forum brought together farmers, agricultural officers, and stakeholders committed to transforming mango farming into a more profitable and organized venture. Ahadi Achievers Empowerment – CBO, known for championing climate action and sustainable farming, emphasized the importance of environmental conservation while improving productivity and farmer incomes.

Speaking during the meeting, Damaris Kavoi noted that mango farming continues to be one of the key economic activities supporting thousands of households in the county. She encouraged farmers to embrace unity and cooperation in both production and marketing in order to access larger and more reliable markets.
The programme also created awareness on the importance of Farmer Producer Organizations through structured SACCO formation. Farmers were educated on how collective farming and organized marketing can help reduce exploitation by middlemen, improve bargaining power, and increase profits.

During the interactive sessions, farmers agreed on the need to form a structured organization that will help them adopt modern farming practices, access training opportunities, and improve post-harvest handling techniques. They also discussed the importance of value addition, quality control, and climate-smart farming methods to ensure sustainable production.

The joint initiative reflects the county government’s commitment to empowering local farmers and advancing sustainable development goals through agriculture. With improved cooperation, better farming knowledge, and organized marketing systems, mango farmers in Mbooni are expected to enjoy higher incomes and expanded market opportunities in the future.
