Visitors attending the 2026 Machakos Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show were treated to an impressive display of dairy excellence by ADC Lanet Farm from Lanet, Nakuru. Among the standout attractions was a high-performing dairy cow named Monicah, an Usher breed cow that has become a symbol of modern dairy farming success.
According to ADC Lanet Farm representative Charles Bwabi, Monicah produces an impressive 30 litres of milk per day, making her one of the top dairy performers showcased during the exhibition. The cow is milked twice daily, in the morning and evening, ensuring consistent milk production throughout the year.

Bwabi explained that proper nutrition plays a key role in maintaining high milk yields. Monicah’s feeding program includes molasses as an important component of her diet. Molasses provides a rich source of energy that supports milk production and helps improve feed intake.
Combined with good management practices, quality feeds, and proper animal health care, the feeding strategy has enabled the cow to achieve remarkable productivity.

The exhibition attracted many farmers interested in learning how improved dairy breeds can increase farm profitability. Bwabi noted that a cow of Monicah’s quality is valued at approximately KSh 170,000, reflecting the growing demand for high-yielding dairy animals among Kenyan farmers.
Agricultural experts at the show emphasized that investing in quality breeds, balanced nutrition, and proper husbandry practices can significantly improve dairy production. They encouraged farmers to adopt modern dairy technologies and management techniques to maximize returns from their enterprises.

Monicah’s outstanding performance at the Machakos ASK Show highlighted the potential of improved dairy farming in Kenya. Her story serves as an inspiration to farmers seeking to increase milk production, boost household incomes, and contribute to the country's growing dairy industry.
