PS Jonathan Mueke Opens Machakos ASK Show-2026 as Massive Crowds Flood Showgrounds (Details)

Machakos Showgrounds transformed into a sea of humanity today as thousands of visitors streamed in for the Machakos ASK Show - 2026. Farmers, students, traders, and families filled the grounds, moving through exhibition tents, livestock displays, and innovation hubs in what organizers described as one of the largest turnouts since the show's inception.

The event was officially opened by Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke, who toured various stands showcasing climate-smart agriculture, agribusiness ventures, and youth-led innovations.The PS underscored the critical role of Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) shows in advancing the country’s agricultural sector, describing them as vital platforms for innovation, investment, and knowledge exchange.

Mueke noted that ASK exhibitions bring together farmers, innovators, investors, and development partners, creating opportunities to showcase solutions that are transforming agriculture and livestock production across the country.

“As we promote climate-smart agriculture, the Government continues to invest in targeted interventions that are creating jobs, strengthening food security, and unlocking greater wealth for farmers,” he said.

The PS highlighted the livestock sector as a key focus area, citing ongoing interventions aimed at improving productivity and resilience. These include enhanced breeding and genetics programs, mass livestock vaccination campaigns, and feed and fodder development initiatives.

He further emphasized the importance of strengthening value-chain infrastructure, noting that investments in cold storage facilities, including milk coolers, are helping to reduce post-harvest losses while increasing farmers’ incomes.

Mueke reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting sustainable agricultural practices, saying such efforts are not only improving livelihoods but also positioning agriculture as a major driver of economic growth.

Meanwhile, Branch Chairman Lawrence Matolo said the five-day show, which has attracted more than 150 exhibitors,has been successful. ASK shows continue to play a pivotal role in connecting stakeholders and accelerating the adoption of modern farming technologies, reinforcing Kenya’s journey toward a more resilient, productive, and prosperous agricultural sector.
