Visitors to the Nakuru ASK Show 2026 were treated to an impressive livestock exhibition by ADC Farm Laikipia, where the Red Maasai Sheep and Black Maasai Sheep attracted significant attention from farmers and livestock enthusiasts. The two indigenous breeds stood out for their excellent adaptability, quality meat production, and resilience under different climatic conditions.
According to representatives at the ADC Farm Laikipia stand, both the Red Maasai and Black Maasai sheep are highly productive breeds known for producing tender and delicious lamb, making them a preferred choice for both commercial and small-scale farmers. Their meat is highly sought after due to its rich flavour and excellent quality, offering farmers an opportunity to earn higher returns from the growing demand for lamb.
One of the biggest advantages of these breeds is their ability to thrive in diverse environments. Whether raised in drought-prone areas or cool highland regions, the sheep adapt remarkably well, making them suitable for many parts of Kenya. They are also hardy animals that require proper management and can be fed on hay alongside other recommended feeds, especially during dry seasons when pasture is limited.
The exhibition also highlighted the value of investing in quality breeding stock. A mature breeding ram costs approximately KSh 30,000, while breeding ewes are available at around KSh 15,000 each. Although the initial investment may seem high, the breeds' productivity, resilience, and market demand make them a worthwhile venture for serious livestock farmers.
