A powerful message on the importance of bees was delivered by Sanchez Beekeepers during the Machakos ASK Show 2026. The beekeeping experts emphasized that bees are among the most important creatures on Earth, warning that if all bees were to disappear, the world's food production would be severely affected.

During their presentation, Sanchez Beekeepers explained that bees play a critical role in pollination. As they move from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen, they help plants reproduce. Many fruits, vegetables, nuts, and fodder crops depend on bee pollination to produce quality yields.

The presenters highlighted a popular statement often associated with the importance of bees: "If bees vanished from the Earth, humans would survive only a few years." While the exact timeline is debated by scientists, Sanchez Beekeepers stressed that the message remains clear—without bees, food systems would collapse, biodiversity would decline, and hunger would increase across the globe.

They noted that crops such as avocados, watermelons, mangoes, coffee, pumpkins, and many vegetables rely heavily on pollinators. A decline in bee populations would therefore lead to reduced harvests and increased food shortages.

Sanchez Beekeepers also encouraged farmers to protect bee habitats by planting flowering plants, reducing harmful pesticide use, and supporting sustainable farming practices. They described bees as "silent workers" that contribute billions of shillings to agriculture every year.

The presentation served as an important reminder that protecting bees is not just about honey production—it is about safeguarding food security, protecting ecosystems, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
