Today Ephantus Kimotho, the Principal Secretary for Irrigation, joined officials from the State Department for Irrigation and the National Irrigation Authority in a public participation meeting regarding the proposed irrigation project at Gwa Kiongo Dam in Ol Kalou Constituency.
The forum brought together farmers, NGAO officers, and representatives from the County Government of Nyandarua to discuss the project and the economic and social benefits it is expected to bring to the local community.

Originally constructed in the 1940s and later desilted by the National Irrigation Authority in 2021, Gwa Kiongo Dam has a storage capacity of 450,000 cubic metres of water and the potential to support irrigation on more than 1,000 acres of farmland.
The initiative reflects the Kenya Kwanza Government’s commitment under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to empower farmers, enhance food security, create employment opportunities, and boost household incomes through sustainable irrigation and agricultural growth.
Led by William Ruto, the Government continues to prioritize unlocking agricultural potential across the country and ensuring communities such as Ol Kalou directly benefit from impactful development projects.
