Kenya is accelerating its strategy to expand global markets for its agricultural exports following high-level discussions between Cabinet Secretary Senator Mutahi Kagwe and the Ambassador of Oman to Kenya, H.E. Nasra Salim Mohamed Al-Hashmi. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral trade relations and unlocking new opportunities for Kenyan farmers and agribusiness investors.
The two leaders emphasized the importance of enhancing trade in key agricultural commodities including tea, coffee, livestock, flowers, fruits, and a wide range of horticultural produce. Kenya, being one of Africa’s leading agricultural exporters, is seeking to diversify its export destinations beyond traditional markets, and Oman presents a strategic gateway to the Gulf region.

Beyond commodity trade, the discussions also explored land commercialization, agro-investment partnerships, and value addition initiatives aimed at boosting productivity and increasing export earnings. Both parties acknowledged that modernizing agriculture and improving processing capacity will be critical in meeting international standards and sustaining long-term trade growth.
The talks further highlighted the importance of creating stronger logistical and policy frameworks to support smooth trade flows between the two countries. Oman expressed interest in expanding its engagement in East Africa’s agricultural sector, particularly in investment-driven partnerships that enhance food security and supply chain efficiency.

This renewed cooperation is expected to pave the way for increased collaboration in agriculture, trade, and broader economic sectors. The engagement marks a significant step in Kenya’s diplomatic and economic agenda to deepen international partnerships, attract foreign investment, and empower farmers through expanded global market access.
