President William Ruto, accompanied by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, is set to officially launch the Coffee Revival Programme, a landmark initiative aimed at rejuvenating Kenya’s coffee sector and improving the livelihoods of thousands of coffee farmers across the country.

The programme seeks to address longstanding challenges that have hindered coffee production, including low yields, poor access to quality seedlings, inadequate extension services, and fluctuating market prices. Through the initiative, the government plans to provide farmers with certified planting materials, affordable farm inputs, technical support, and better market linkages to increase productivity and profitability.

Speaking ahead of the launch, government officials noted that coffee remains one of Kenya’s most valuable cash crops and a key foreign exchange earner. However, production levels have declined over the years due to neglect, aging coffee bushes, and rising production costs. The Coffee Revival Programme is expected to reverse this trend by encouraging farmers to expand cultivation and adopt modern farming practices.

The initiative also aims to strengthen cooperative societies, improve value addition, and ensure farmers receive fair returns for their produce. By promoting transparency in the coffee value chain, the government hopes to restore confidence among growers and attract more young people to coffee farming.

President Ruto has consistently emphasized agriculture as a critical pillar of Kenya’s economic transformation agenda. The launch of the Coffee Revival Programme underscores the administration’s commitment to empowering farmers, enhancing food security, and increasing rural incomes.

Farmers and stakeholders across coffee-growing regions have welcomed the programme, expressing optimism that it will revitalize the sector and position Kenyan coffee competitively in the global market.
